Psychiatric Evaluations

Psychiatric evaluations are comprehensive assessments conducted by mental health professionals to understand and diagnose emotional, behavioral, and psychological disorders in individuals of different age groups. These evaluations play a crucial role in designing personalized treatment plans to promote mental well-being.

Ann Marie conducts psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. she diagnoses and treats a wide variety of conditions including ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and eating disorders.
She has a particular interest in: adult ADHD, the intersection of medical diagnoses including POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Lyme disease, hypothyroidism, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the co-occurence of eating disorders and ADHD and substance use disorders and ADHD, including the careful, but effective, treatment of ADHD in these populations, treatment of severe problem behavior in individuals with ASD/IDD including the important collaboration with behavior analysts, and the MTHFR gene and folic acid metabolism’s role in mental health & psychiatry

Medication Management

Psychiatric medication management involves the careful prescription, monitoring, and adjustment of medications to treat and manage mental health conditions. It aims to optimize medication effectiveness while minimizing side effects. Regular follow-up appointments are essential to assess progress and make necessary adjustments to the medication regimen, ensuring the best possible outcome for symptom improvement

Ann Marie prides herself on actively working to prevent poly pharmacy, prescribing the least medications at the smallest effective doses to treat symptoms - this doesn’t mean everyone’s symptoms are treated with low doses or one medication and that is okay! But careful management and assessment of the role of each medication in order to ensure necessity and efficacy, making one change at a time, is crucial to evidence based prescribing for children, adolescents, and adults

Pharmacogenomic Testing (GeneSight)

GeneSight psychotropic testing is a genetic test used in the field of psychiatry and mental health. It's designed to assist healthcare providers in selecting the most appropriate medications for individuals with mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders. The test analyzes an individual's genetic information, specifically looking at variations in genes that influence the way their body processes certain psychiatric medications. Based on the genetic analysis, GeneSight generates a report that categorizes medications by those which are genetically optimal and suboptimal. Healthcare providers can use the GeneSight report to make more informed decisions about which medications are likely to be most effective and have the fewest side effects for the individual. This can help optimize the treatment plan and potentially reduce the trial-and-error approach to finding the right medication.

Ann Marie has been using Genesight testing for the past 11 years (since GeneSight’s inception in 2013) and has completed tests on over 1,000 patients across all different age groups and diagnoses. She has served as a medical consultant and speaker for Genesight for the last 7 years and is considered an expert in the utilization of the test. She has trained hundreds or providers in science behind the test and how to use it to optimize patient’s outcomes most effectively.
